"Winter's Wrath" is finished

After a busy holiday season and some annoying issues with the website. I can finally post an image of the painting that has been completed for some time. Inspiration for this piece came out of the winter we had here in southern Ontario last year. Fortunately Winter has not been quite so truculent this year, at least in this neck of the woods.

"First Light" is finished.

It is funny how technology has changed our entire lives, including schedules. Even as I get older I remain an early riser. Even so, I rarely see a sunrise. It must have been invigorating for those in the past whose lives were essentially ruled by the rising and setting sun. There would have been something primordial about the impulse to get the day started.....to make hay while the sun shone.

This was a fun piece to do. It was a challenge to suggest the right kind of light in the right way on the various surfaces. I hope you think I captured the essence of those first rays.

"Back Forty"

With the rapidly approaching Artist Project Show in Toronto, I was under considerable pressure to finish this latest painting. I knew from the very onset that it was going to be something quite special and I needed to have it done.

"Sunset Days"

One of the most popular images I have ever painted was this one and I must say that it, among all of my paintings, it is most reminiscent of my childhood. Back when winters seemed considerably harsher the early winter sunsets always seemed more brilliant. And, as a youngster, it seemed one was always racing against time to get home from wherever, before it was dark. Another icon of that period was the glass insulator on the hydro lines. They were everywhere, of course, and they always seemed the perfect target for snowballs, stones and even rifles. Little did we know.
