"Back Forty"

With the rapidly approaching Artist Project Show in Toronto, I was under considerable pressure to finish this latest painting. I knew from the very onset that it was going to be something quite special and I needed to have it done.

There is something of real cultural significance in an old rusty truck. When I was a kid they were everywhere and virtually every farm had a back forty where the discarded were sent to rest. Ultimately they became icons in the new religion of technology. A new truck stood for hope and promised progress in the drive for greater production, easier lives and a more comfortable existence. An old truck symbolized the continued struggle to achieve these goals.
